This committee is charged with the responsibility of organizing and managing academia symposia focusing both on the external challenges facing the Ecumenical Patriarchate and on the five major religious freedom issues critical to the Patriarch and to Orthodox Christians.

John Blazakis

He participated in two pilgrimages to the Ecumenical Patriarchate (in 2006 and in 2009) and he was the motorcade coordinator for the visit of His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the US in November 2009.

Archon Blazakis is a member of Fellowship 1000 of the Holy Metropolis of New Jersey. He was also responsible for the transportation of the Archbishop of Crete (2010).

Archon Blazakis is a retired Chief of Police in Somerset County, NJ.

Archon Boardman has chaired the Parish Facilities Committee, which advises the Metropolitan of Atlanta on all matters related to the construction of churches and other buildings in the Metropolis. He also conducts the Hellenic Dance Program at the Cathedral.

North Carolina Museum of Art Friends of Greek Art, he has served since 2007. The committee was created to raise funds for the purchase of Greek Antiquities for the new Hellenic Museum Wing. Over $ 1 Million Dollars has been raised.

Judge Chrones currently serves as a Circuit Court Judge in Chicago, after a long tenure as a practicing attorney in Chicago.

Judge Chrones states that he wishes to pay back to the Ecumenical Patriarchate the beneficence afforded years ago by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to his late father-in-law, Nikolaos Karnezos, who was born in Imbros. The Patriarchate paid for his father-in-law’s education, leading to a degree in physics from the University of Athens.

Judge Chrones and his wife have established a scholarship fund, in Mr. Karnezos’ name, for the benefit of the Patriarchate to educate young people. Thus far, $100,000 has been sent to the Patriarchate. Judge Chrones also has organized many fundraising events for the ministries of the Chicago Metropolis.

A parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, California, the Hon. Steven G. Counelis was invested as an Archon by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on October 31, 2021 and conferred with the offikion Nomophylax.

Archon Hon. Counelis is Judge of the Superior Court of the State of California in the County of Riverside. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government, and with his Juris Doctor degree, from the University of San Francisco. As a college student, he served at the United States Supreme Court, in the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice. Prior to being elected to the Superior Court in 2010, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for seventeen years. He has also served in a number of parish leadership roles. In 2016 he was elected by the Metropolis Assembly to serve on the Metropolis Council, and has done so to the present. Archon Counelis and his wife Stacia have served as the Conference Advisors to the Young Adult League (YAL) Conference Ministry of the Metropolis of San Francisco since its renaissance in 2018, and continue to guide in the execution and planning of the annual Conference.

Participated in several International Religious Freedom Symposiums: EU Parliament Brussels (2010); Washington DC, (2017); joined His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros on his historic return to Constantinople (2019)

Archon Damianakis is an internationally renowned Master Iconographer. Elias and his wife, Angela (Psychotherapist, LCSW), grew up at Holy Trinity, Hicksville, NY married in 1991. They have three children Theophani (son-in-law, Stylianos Sarigiannis), Stavronikitas (daughter-in-law Kristen Karavantos-Love) all four graduates of HCHC, and Euphemia (12).

Prof. Dr. George E. Demacopoulos of St. Paraskevi in Greenlawn, NY, was invested as Archon in 2010 and conferred with the offikion Didaskalos tou Genous. He participated in the 2006 pilgrimage to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. His research resulted in the return to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the relics of St. Gregory the Theologian and St. John Chrysostom from Vatican. He also coordinated the award by Fordham University of its highest honor, the Honorary Doctorate of Laws to His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in 2009.

Archon Demacopoulos has served on various parish committee ministries of St Paraskevi. He has also been a frequent guest lecturer on Orthodoxy at clergy and lay gatherings of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

Archon Demacopoulos graduated with a BA from the University of Tennessee, with an MTS in Theology from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and with an MA and a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently the Fr. John Meyendorff & Patterson Family Chair of Orthodox Christian Studies at Fordham University. He is also the Co-Director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at the same University. He specializes in the History of Christianity for Late Antiquity, the Early Medieval West, and Byzantium. He is the author of many books, articles and academic presentations on Orthodoxy.

Archon Fotopoulos chants at both parish churches and is the homilist at the Holy Apostles Church.

Archon Fotopoulos earned an M.Div degree at Holy Cross, where he was the class valedictorian, and a PhD at Loyola University. He is a Professor of Religious Studies at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, specializing in the New Testament and early Christian studies. Archon Fotopoulos is a scholar and a prolific writer (four books, 24 articles and 21 papers) and lecturer, including a lecture in Athens several years ago titled “Baptism in the Pauline Churches in the First Century.”
